This year, the Grammy Awards are spreading the wealth.

Fronting a diverse array of nominees, rapper Eminem led the pack with a total 10 nominations, including nods in such major categories as Album of the Year and Record of the Year, it was announced Wednesday night.

Not far behind: Bruno Mars, with seven nominations, including several as a songwriter, while Lady Gaga and country trio Lady Antebellum each earned six nominations, including one for Album of the Year for their stirring single "Need You Now."

Many of the major nominations were announced live on CBS during an hour-long concert special hosted by LL Cool J from L.A.'s Club Nokia, which featured performances by Katy Perry, Justin Bieber and Miranda Lambert.

Album of the Year nominations went to Arcade Fire's The Suburbs, Eminem's Recovery, Lady Antebellum's Need You Now, Lady Gaga's The Fame Monster and Katy Perry's Teenage Dream.

An enthusiastic Perry, who opened the concert special with a performance of her hit "California Gurls," raved: "It's like no other award show, because I feel like you're being recognized by your peers."

In the major category of Record of the Year, nominees were: ....
B.o.B. ("Nothin' on You"), Eminem (featuring Rihanna) ("Love the Way You Lie"), Cee-Lo Green ("F–– You"), Jay-Z & Alicia Keys ("Empire State of Mind") and Lady Antebellum ("Need You Now").

Best New Artist nods crossed genres and went to Justin Bieber, Drake, Florence & the Machine, Mumford and Sons and Esperanza Spalding.

"Wow, it feels amazing. I can't believe I'm in this position," an overwhelmed Bieber said, live via satellite from London, after the news was announced. "I don't think of myself as a superstar. I think of myself as a normal person living my dream."

Selena Gomez and Foo Fighters rocker Dave Grohl announced nominees for Song of the Year, which is given to the songwriter. The five nominees were Cee-Lo Green for "F––– You," Ray Lamontagne for "Beg Steal Or Borrow," Lady Antebellum for "Need You Now," Eminem for "Love the Way You Lie" and Miranda Lambert for "The House That Built Me."

Other key nominees include the cast of Glee, which earned two nominations, as did Bieber. Perry and Rihanna walked away with four nods, while Beyoncé earned two.

The 53rd annual Grammy Awards will air live on CBS from Los Angeles's Staples Center on Feb. 13.

The looming Oscar smackdown

Natalie Portman is the star of Darren Aronofsky's nightmarish ballet drama "Black Swan."
Natalie Portman is the star of Darren Aronofsky's nightmarish ballet drama "Black Swan."
STORY HIGHLIGHTS
  • "Black Swan" is dark to the point of being a quasi-horror film
  • "Kids," though it deals with tough issues, is ultimately a warm-hearted crowd pleaser
  • "They both give great performances, and they should be proud of their work," a source says
Can Natalie Portman's psycho "Black Swan" ballerina snag the Best Actress Oscar from Annette Bening, a veteran nominee who caused audiences to swoon in "The Kids Are All Right?"
(The Daily Beast) -- It may only be December, but the Best Actress race is already shaping up to be the most competitive in years, with everyone from back-from-obscurity Nicole Kidman to indie darling Tilda Swinton to newcomer Jennifer Lawrence causing a stir. It's a pity that the race has already boiled down to a smackdown between just two of the divas: Annette Bening, for her role as an uptight lesbian in Lisa Cholodenko's "The Kids Are All Right," and Natalie Portman, the star of Darren Aronofsky's nightmarish ballet drama, "Black Swan," which opens this weekend.
It causes déjà vu, of course -- last year, the elder stateswoman versus ingénue-y battle lines were drawn between Meryl Streep ("Julie & Julia") and Sandra Bullock ("The Blind Side"). And the same arguments that were made on behalf of those......
actresses are being repurposed, almost verbatim, this season: that the older Bening has been nominated thrice before (for "The Grifters," "American Beauty," and "Being Julia"), and thus "deserves" to win. That Portman has, Bullock-like, "surprised" us by playing a part no one knew she was capable of.
In "Black Swan," the 29-year-old Portman graduates from turns in cute indie movies ("Garden State") and unapologetic blockbusters (the "Star Wars" prequels) to play a Type AAA professional ballerina who wins the lead role in "Swan Lake" and becomes embroiled in an "All About Eve"-like war with a brazen new arrival (Mila Kunis) to the dance company.
Like Jodie Foster's Oscar-winning performance in "The Accused," the role demonstrates a new range and maturity for Portman, who trades in her saccharine cuteness for a quiet intensity that teeters on the brink of hysteria. Like a glass doll perched on a precarious ledge, she seems always this close to falling over the edge and self-destructing. Even her rail-thin body has a severity to it, the result of a year-long, daily training regimen of five to eight hours of ballet work, swimming a mile, and eating next to nothing. The process, Portman recently told the New York Times, sent her into "complete physical distress."
Travers: 'Back Swan' one of year's best
The academy, and the acting branch in particular, which votes on Best Actress, adores such admissions of self-inflicted torture for the sake of Art, and under normal circumstances, it would be time for Portman to start thinking about her acceptance speech. Also in her favor is that over the past decade, youth has been rewarded in the Best Actress category -- with the exception of 2006 winner Helen Mirren and Bullock, who was 45, all of the winners have been in their late twenties or thirties. "One pattern that has been clear in the Best Actress category in recent years with the old boys in the academy is that they treat it like a beauty pageant," Tom O'Neil, who runs the awards website GoldDerby.com, told The Daily Beast. "When you look at the parade of lovelies that have won, it's Charlize, Julia, Nicole, Halle ... This year the babe of the year is Natalie Portman."
But 52-year-old Bening, who has twice been denied an Oscar by the same starlet (Hilary Swank, who won for "Boys Don't Cry" when Bening was nominated for "American Beauty" and for "Million Dollar Baby" the year of "Being Julia"), is not about to step aside and let another whippersnapper steal the spotlight. If anything, she is using her age and experience as a weapon. At Q&A screenings of "Kids" for guild members, she has made a point to remind fellow thespians that she is an actor's actor, one with a long body of work both on the stage and screen. It's also been made clear that playing a middle-aged mom required its own kind of suffering. Portman may have starved herself, but Bening was willing to do something that in Hollywood is considered far more unthinkable: not wear makeup. It's maybe not as extreme as Oscar-winner Charlize Theron's transformation in "Monster," but it still falls under the "going ugly" category, which has always been Oscar catnip. And it's sure to strike a chord with female voters of a certain age.
Something else Bening is doing is working it. During these all-important weeks of non-stop schmoozing before Oscar ballots are due, Bening has been a red-carpet regular. In August, she was honored at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association luncheon (the HFPA votes on the Golden Globes). In October, she was given the absurdly titled "Hollywood Actress Award" at the Hollywood Film Festival, one of the most ridiculed awards ceremony in a land of dubious festivals and awards shows. And in January, she's set to receive the American Riviera Award at the Santa Barbara Film Festival -- another thinly veiled opportunity to hobnob with Oscar voters. (Last year, Bullock took home the Riviera Award.)
Another one of Bening's weapons is husband Warren Beatty, a Hollywood dean who knows a thing or two about Oscar campaigning (he's been nominated 10 times and won Best Director for "Reds") and is one of the town's most well-connected citizens.
"Warren can call [Jack] Nicholson up and start having screenings in living rooms, dinner with their friends -- that's how they're going to get her the nomination and win," noted another Oscar consultant, referring to a less formal, more insidery schmoozing tactic known as the Bel Air circuit.
But observers add that however aggressive Bening is being, she's ultimately waging a graceful battle. "She campaigns as classy as anyone I know," said the consultant. "She handles herself in an exemplary manner. There are people who campaign in such a way that it makes many of us feel uncomfortable, but it's a very thin line to walk."
As for Portman, her lesser visibility is in part due to the fact that "Black Swan" has not yet been released and is only now starting to be screened for Academy members. Fox Searchlight has kept the film and its stars under tight wraps since its premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September. There have been the obligatory spreads in major newspapers and magazines in recent weeks, and Portman and the rest of the cast were on hand last month when Aronofsky presented "Black Swan" at the AFI Festival in L.A., but otherwise the film has been relying more on buzz (which has been intense, and largely rapturous) than showboating.
Though on the eve of its release, the reins are loosening. On Wednesday night, Searchlight threw a lavish Oscar party on the rooftop of the trendy Thompson hotel in Beverly Hills, attended by Portman et al. Expect more such rollouts -- and Portman face-time ops -- in the coming weeks from Searchlight, which has a reputation as a big spender this time of year. (In contrast, Focus Features, "Kids'" distributor, tends to rely more on a grassroots approach and savvy, as opposed to extravagant marketing.)
Something else that will tip the scales in either Portman or Bening's favor is how "Black Swan" is received by Oscar voters. Unlike "Kids," which, though it deals with tough issues, is ultimately a warm-hearted crowd pleaser, "Black Swan" is dark to the point of being a quasi-horror film, and includes an incredibly graphic sex scene between Portman and Kunis. At this stage, the reaction from the academy has been "divisive," the Oscar consultant said. "I've heard people say it's amazing, and others have hated it."
But whatever's going on behind the scenes, in public, everyone is being graciously judicious. When I asked "Black Swan" producer Mike Medavoy about the Bening-Portman rivalry, he said, "They both give great performances, and they should be proud of their work. I would say to both of them, 'Good luck.' They're both great actresses. We'll see how it all goes."

Danny Bonaduce's Surprise (to Him!) Hawaiian Wedding

For three years, Danny Bonaduce had promised Amy Railsback that he would marry her anytime and that he had even bought her a ring, but he wanted her to take care of the paperwork.

Then last November then phone rang.

"The wedding planner from the hotel called to speak with Amy and told me I was getting married!” Bonaduce, 51, tells PEOPLE. “I said, ‘Honey you got something to tell me?’ Then I thought about it, and said, ‘This is a great idea!’”
The Partridge Family star and Railsback, 28, a former substitute teacher from Sacramento who is now his manager, were married Nov. 22 in a private ceremony in Maui.

It was a sunset ceremony at picturesque Plumeria Point, with just a wedding coordinator and minister on hand. Railsback says she picked out the garden spot because the backdrop was the ocean and islands

“I was going to tell him,” she says....
“It was an unintentional surprise.”

The bride wore an off-white crochet dress and Bonaduce wore cream colored slacks, a shirt and lei. After the ceremony, they went for a walk on the beach and then had a Hawaiian dinner at the hotel – marinated tuna, sashimi, and a Spam California roll that was sent over by a pal, Shane Victorino, a friend and a Philadelphia Phillies’ baseball player staying at the same hotel.

And the ring the actor had picked out? It was a $400 a sterling silver diamond crusted skull and crossbones.

"It’s our insignia,” he says, “and I have a similar one." Railsback also received a Scott Kay 1¼ carat white gold setting.

Says the new Mrs. Bonaduce: “Danny realized I might not want to wear a skull and crossbones every day."

From a meat-dress-wearing diva to a rapper to a country trio and beyond, this year's Grammy nominations in the top Album of the Year catergory are diverse to say the least.

The trophies won't be handed out until Feb. 13, but that doesn't mean you can't weigh in on your favorite of the five nominated choices.

Arcade Fire's The Suburbs
The album by the Canadian indie rockers was released in August and was described by frontman Win Butler as "a mix of the Depeche Mode and....
Neil Young." It drew two other nods this year: Best Alternative Music Album and Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals.

Eminem's Recovery
Eminem called upon fellow superstars Pink and Rihanna to back him up on this one, which shot straight to the top of the charts when it was released in June. Critics generally liked it, with Entertainment Weekly seeing "flashes of new maturity" in the work. It's up for multiple awards, including Best Rap Album.

Lady Antebellum's Need You Now
The group's sophomore effort debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and spawned the catchy hit – about an ill-advised late-night phone call made out of loneliness – of the same name.

Lady Gaga's The Fame Monster
The album, technically an EP, counts Beyoncé as one of its guests and deals with the darker side of fame. The Fame Monster spawned mega-singles including "Bad Romance" and "Alejandro."

Katy Perry's Teenage Dream
Russell Brand's wife is responsible for one of the songs of 2010, "California Gurls," the lead single from this disc. Teenage Dream went straight to No. 1 when it was released in August, and is also nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album.

Jets suspend, fine coach who tripped player

STORY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jets suspend strength and conditioning coach Sal Alosi without pay, fine him $25,000
  • Alosi tripped Dolphins rookie cornerback Nolan Carroll on Jets' sideline on Sunday
  • In statement, Alosi says he accepts responsibility for his actions, respects decision
  • Jets head coach: "That's a thing that has no business in this league or anywhere else"
(CNN) -- The New York Jets on Monday suspended a strength and conditioning coach through the 2010 season's playoffs for intentionally tripping a Miami Dolphins player during Sunday's Jets-Dolphins game, the Jets said on their website.
The Jets said they suspended Sal Alosi without pay and fined him $25,000 for tripping Dolphins rookie cornerback Nolan Carroll on the Jets' sideline as Carroll was covering a punt in the third quarter of Miami's 10-6 victory.
"After reviewing the facts and consulting with the league office, we determined that this was the most appropriate discipline," Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum said on the Jets' site. "I have spoken with Sal. He understands the severity...
of his actions and has apologized to all parties involved in the incident."
Alosi, who will be barred from the Jets' practice facility until the end of the season, said in a statement that he accepts responsibility for his actions and respects the team's decision.
Carroll, covered by two Jets players, was running along the sideline toward the Jets' punt returner when the incident happened at the New Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey. Video shows Carroll was out of bounds and trying to run back in the field of play when Alosi -- standing with his hands in his pockets -- leaned his left knee forward. The knee caught Carroll, who tumbled to the ground.
Carroll was shaken up but eventually walked to his sideline on his own power. He returned to the game in the fourth quarter.
Before the suspension was announced, Alosi told reporters Monday that he was sorry for the incident, and that he wasn't thinking during the play.
"If I could go back and do it again, I sure as heck would take a step back. It was just a situation where I wasn't thinking," Alosi said during a news conference Monday afternoon at the Jets' facility in Florham Park, New Jersey.
He said he apologized after the game Sunday to Carroll, Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano and Jets owner Woody Johnson, among others. He said he hadn't offered to resign but would accept whatever disciplinary action he received.
"I let everybody down yesterday with my actions. My actions were inexcusable and irresponsible. I'm extremely thankful that my actions yesterday didn't result in any significant injury to Nolan or any other player," he said.
Noting that the Dolphins had been penalized earlier in the game for running out of bounds, a reporter asked Alosi whether someone had instructed him and other Jets personnel to stand close to the sidelines to prevent such moves.
"No, that wasn't anything that was instructed," Alosi said. "Our inactive players -- guys that don't play -- we try to keep those guys focused on the game, root those players on. ... We wanted to cheer on our guys."
Meeting with reporters before the suspension was announced, Jets head coach Rex Ryan said the Jets and the NFL were working together on Alosi's punishment. Ryan said he wanted to apologize to Carroll and the Dolphins.
"That's a thing that has no business in this league or anywhere else. Sal made a huge mistake. He knows that. He's apologized for it," Ryan said.
Sparano, before he had a chance to review the tape, told reporters after the game Sunday that his coaches upstairs were telling him that Carroll had been tripped.
"I talked to the referee at that point ... [and] I told him at that point that it was on tape and that the people upstairs are telling me that that's what they see," Sparano said.
Carroll told South Florida's Sun Sentinel newspaper that he wasn't angry. But some of his teammates were.
"Come on, man. That's dirty! ... There's no place for that in football," Dolphins linebacker Karlos Dansby said Sunday, according to the Sun-Sentinel. "Hopefully they'll be fined for it. I'll leave it up to the league."
Alosi, who played linebacker at Hofstra, joined the Jets as an intern in 2002 before serving as their assistant strength and conditioning coach from 2003 to 2005. He worked one year with the Atlanta Falcons before returning to the Jets as their head strength and conditioning coach in 2007.

Ten stars who followed Oscar-worthy performances with stinkers

While Natalie Portman deserves attention for her role in "Black Swan," her new rom-com could cost her precious Academy votes.
While Natalie Portman deserves attention for her role in "Black Swan," her new rom-com could cost her precious Academy votes.
STORY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Portman's rom-com "No Strings Attached" is coming out right before the Oscars
  • Sandra Bullock made history in 2010 for winning both an Oscar and a Razzie
  • Halle Berry followed her 2002 Academy Award with a Razzie Award in 2005
(The Frisky) -- Natalie Portman is getting a lot of Oscar buzz for her performance in "Black Swan." And while the young actress certainly deserves the attention for the mind-bending role, we're a little concerned that a dud of a movie is about to hit theaters that could distract critics from her performance in the ballet thriller. Her rom-com "No Strings Attached," also starring Ashton Kutcher, is coming out right before the Oscars.
Sometimes when this kind of thing happens, it makes the stronger performance seem like a fluke and can cost an actor precious Academy votes. But Natalie would not be the first star who went from stellar performance to getting stuck in a stinker.
From "Dreamgirls to "Norbit"
Apparently, a lot of people felt that Eddie Murphy's shot at winning an Oscar for ....
his role in "Dreamgirls" evaporated after his 2007 movie "Norbit." For his role as James "Thunder" Early in "Dreamgirls," Murphy took home a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award and earned an Oscar nomination (but not a win), but when "Norbit" dropped in theaters, the movie ended up winning eight Golden Raspberry "Razzie" awards. That's a lot of bad "fruit."
The Frisky: Pics of 15 celebrity slobs
America's sweetheart bombs
Sandra Bullock made history in 2010 for winning both an Oscar and a Razzie in the same year. Actually, make that in the same weekend! Before accepting her Best Actress Oscar for "The Blind Side," the gracious actress accepted a Razzie for Worst Actress in "All About Steve." We're sure her two statues sit side by side.
From "Good Will" to six stinkers
Ben Affleck took home an Oscar in 1997 for writing "Good Will Hunting," so I suppose his acting prowess wasn't exactly on the line. But he followed up that win with a number of truly mediocre roles and was nominated for Worst Actor of the Decade Razzie this year for his contributions to film in "Daredevil," "Gigli," "Jersey Girl," "Paycheck," "Pearl Harbor," and "Surviving Christmas." Ouch. But it should be noted that Affleck did accept his 2004 Razzie in person, so at least he's a good sport.
The Frisky: 12 celebs who've denied getting breast implants
"Catwoman" was a "Monster"
Actress Halle Berry followed her 2002 Academy Award for Best Actress in "Monster's Ball" with a Razzie Award for Worst Actress in "Catwoman" in 2005. Berry accepted her Razzie while holding her Academy Award, which is awesomely ... awesome.
The Frisky: 10 female stars who are OK with nudity
He should have said "no" to "Vice"
Jamie Foxx had a great year in 2004 after winning an Oscar for "Ray," getting another nomination for "Collateral," and having a hit song with "Slow Jamz." But he followed that strong year with films like "Miami Vice" and "Valentine's Day," which, no matter what anyone says, was super mediocre.
She had a good and a bad "marriage" movie
Her performance in 2008's "Rachel Getting Married" earned Anne Hathaway an Oscar nomination, but her other bridal-themed flop, "Bride Wars," the following year made us forget all about it. Wedding-themed movies are just a hard genre to get right.
The Frisky: 10 Hollywood female celebs under 35 who are "out"
From piano man to sci-fi flop
Nothing could make me stop loving Adrien Brody, but he did manage to disappoint critics when he followed up his 2003 Best Actor Oscar for "The Pianist" with "The Singing Detective" and (shudder) "King Kong." And now he's wasting his talent in weird sc-fi movies like "Splice" and "Predators?" Get this man a period piece, pronto!

Miley Cyrus
Oh my, Miley.

A video of the pop sensation partying the week of her 18th birthday with a bong has surfaced, but sources tell TMZ that Cyrus was not smoking marijuana.

According to the report, she was smoking a natural herb, salvia, which is legal in California and has hallucinogenic effects.

"I'm having a little bit of a bad trip," Cyrus says into the camera, before asking her "friend", "Is that a Liam look-alike – is that my boyfriend?"
In between bouts of giggles, she asks, "Is that me tripping? Does that look like Liam at all?"

The video, which was shot five days after her birthday, ends in Cyrus saying, "I want more of that s---," after laughing and rambling incomprehensibly.

The newly released photos – the official portrait photographs for the engagement of Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton – were captured during a two-hour shoot by fashion photographer Mario Testino, who was hand-selected by the groom-to-be, 28, for the task.

"Prince William has worked with Mario Testino on many occasions before, and so the couple decided that he was the right choice for such an important portrait," said a Clarence House spokeswoman.

Middleton, 28, did her own makeup for the photos (as she did for her televised post-engagement interview), a source tells PEOPLE, though Testino's makeup artist was on hand for touch-ups.
And those famous tresses? The princess-to-be got her hair done by her usual stylist, James Pryce, from the Richard Ward salon.

For the formal photo – which was snapped in the historic Council Chamber linked to Clarence House, the official residence of William's father Prince Charles – Prince William donned a Turnbull and Asser suit, while Kate chose a white Reiss dress and Links earrings. For the dressed-down denim look – taken in the Cornwall Room of St. James's Palace – William changed into a Turnbull and Asser shirt and Brunello Cucinelli sweater, with Kate opting for a Whistles blouse.

Testino is famous for his photos of celebrities and royalty, among them Prince William, Prince Harry and their late mother, Princess Diana.

"I am very happy to have been asked to cover this historic moment that the whole world was waiting for," Testino said in a statement. "They are in their prime and brimming with happiness. I have never felt so much joy as when I see them together."

Inside The New Michael Jackson Album

Inside The New Michael Jackson Album
Michael Jackson's posthumous album

In 2007, Michael Jackson began working on new music that he wouldn't live to finish.

Since the King of Pop's untimely death, several producers and songwriters have picked up where he left off, finishing the album, Michael, out Dec. 14.

"I think he'd be very proud," says producer Tricky Stewart, who worked on "Keep Your Head Up." "If I didn't think he's be proud, I wouldn't do this."

The songs on the album, he adds, appear "as they were written, but it was up to us to produce and deliver them to their fullest potential."

One of those songs, "Hold My Hand," was co-written by songwriter Claude Kelly. "Michael loved everything about it," says Kelly, who wrote the song with rapper Akon. Though the track was originally intended for Whitney Houston, Akon liked it so much that he kept it for himself.

Enter Michael Jackson. When Akon played it for him to get his feedback, "Michael was like, 'I have to get on this; this is me, and exactly what I want to talk about,'" says Kelly.

Like many who worked with the music icon, Stewart has a memorable story of the day he first met Jackson, back in 1993.

"He would send a bunch of stuff to personalize the studio, and in this case, he sent arcade games," says the producer. "I was young and not really thinking and I started playing Pac-Man when I heard this voice – and there's no mistaking that voice – saying, 'You know those are my games, don't you?'"

Luckily, the star was happy to share. "He was really cool and nice about it," Stewart recalls with a laugh. "He even let me keep playing."

Nepal ex-prince Paras Shah arrested over gun row

Paras Shah was unpopular among Nepalis for his drunken antics
Former Nepali Crown Prince Paras Shah has been detained by police after allegedly firing a gun during a drunken row in a hotel restaurant.
Mr Shah, who was heir to the throne before it was abolished in 2008, said he had fired a gun because someone had been insulting his relatives.
As crown prince, he was highly unpopular among many Nepalis for his heavy drinking and playboy lifestyle.
The monarchy plunged into crisis after nine royals died in a 2001 massacre.
The Himalayan nation's 240-year-old Hindu monarchy was eventually abolished in 2008 after former Maoist rebels came to power.
'Threats to kill' Mr Shah had an argument with the daughter and son-in-law of Nepal's Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala.
The former prince said in a statement that his family had been insulted during the row - although he did not name the people he had been arguing with.

Nepal's royals

  • June 2001: Royals including king and queen murdered in palace massacre; King Gyanendra assumes throne
  • Feb 2005: Gyanendra dissolves government, takes direct power to fight Maoist rebels
  • Apr 2006: Parliament reinstated after violent street protests
  • Dec 2007: Abolition of monarchy agreed as part of peace deal with Maoists
  • May 2008: Nepal becomes republic
"I fired a shot in the air from my pistol in a fit of anger as I could not bear the insult of myself and the country," Mr Shah said in a statement.
But Rubel Chaudhary, the Bangladeshi son-in-law of Mr Koirala, accused the former prince of threatening to kill him.
"He said he wanted to take me into the jungle to see tigers, but I refused because it was already late at night. Then he started making threats. He said he was going to kill me, my wife and my children," Mr Chaudhary told the AFP news agency.
Police detained Mr Shah on Tuesday at a hotel in the Fulbari resort at the town of Pokhara, western Nepal.
A home minstry official told AFP he would be charged with using a firearm in a public place.
Mr Shah moved to Singapore with his family in 2008 after the monarchy was abolished.
His cousin, Prince Dipendra, carried out the massacre in 2001 - killing several of his relatives, including the king and queen.
Mr Shah's father, Gyanendra, became king after the massacre, but his attempt to re-establish an absolute monarchy in 2005 led to widespread protests.
Abolition of the monarchy was eventually made part of a 2007 peace deal with Maoist rebels, who had fought a decade-long civil war.

Richard Holbrooke, veteran US diplomat, dies

Richard Holbrooke in May 2009
Mr Holbrooke was a long-serving diplomat with a muscular style
Veteran US diplomat Richard Holbrooke has died following a second round of surgery to treat a torn aorta.
Mr Holbrooke was best-known for helping to broker the Dayton Peace agreement in 1995 which ended the Bosnian war.
At the time of death he was President Barack Obama's special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Mr Obama called the 69-year-old, who was known for bringing warring leaders to the negotiating table, a "true giant of American foreign policy".
Mr Holbrooke was meeting Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the US state department on Friday morning when he collapsed.
He was rushed to the US capital's George Washington University Hospital, where he underwent a 21-hour operation to repair a tear in his aorta - the largest artery in the human body, which carries oxygenated blood from the heart.
Mr Holbrooke's death comes as the Obama administration prepares to make public its latest review of US policy in Afghanistan and Pakistan later this week.
'Foreign policy giant' Mr Holbrooke was focused on the challenges in the region until his final breath, according to reports.
As the veteran diplomat was led into surgery, he is reported to have turned to the Pakistani surgeon at his side and appealed for an end to the war in Afghanistan.

Analysis

Despite the requisite tributes to Richard Holbrooke from Afghan leaders, it had been a very troubled relationship.
There were some spectacular rows behind the scenes. In one, in the aftermath of the presidential elections, Mr Holbrooke stormed out of a meeting with President Karzai. It took the US ambassador in Kabul to calm things down and arrange a second meeting.
Above all, he thought that a purely military victory was not possible.
There had to be a political settlement, he thought, and that meant some kind of negotiations with the Taliban. This was based on his view that the Taliban could be detached from al-Qaeda - and that if the Taliban returned to Afghanistan as part of a peace deal, al-Qaeda might not necessarily return with them.
The facts on the ground in Afghanistan increasingly seem to support his argument that a political settlement is the only way to conclude this war.
Following the news of his death, Mr Obama said: "Michelle and I are deeply saddened by the passing of Richard Holbrooke, a true giant of American foreign policy who has made America stronger, safer and more respected.
"He was a truly unique figure who will be remembered for his tireless diplomacy, love of country, and pursuit of peace."
Mrs Clinton also paid tribute to Mr Holbrooke's service, saying the US had lost "one of its fiercest champions and most dedicated public servants".
"He was one of a kind - a true statesman - and that makes his passing all the more painful," she said in a statement.
Beginning with a foreign service posting in Vietnam in 1962, the veteran diplomat served under every Democratic president from John F Kennedy to Mr Obama.
But it was his role in Europe, helping bring to an end the war in Bosnia, that solidified his reputation as an important figure in foreign policy.
Nicknamed the Bulldozer, the veteran diplomat once said he had no qualms about "negotiating with people who do immoral things", if it served efforts for peace.
'Ruffled feathers' Mr Holbrooke was named by Mr Obama as his special representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan shortly after the president took office in January 2009.
Obama: Mr Holbrooke was "true giant of American foreign policy"
Since moving into that position under the Obama administration, he had led the difficult task of pushing Kabul and Islamabad to work together against al-Qaeda and Taliban militants.
The bruising style that served him elsewhere ruffled feathers in Pakistan, says the BBC's Orla Guerin in Islamabad. There was a sense, especially earlier on, that a more nuanced and subtle approach was needed.
But officials spoke of a "huge vacuum" left by his passing.
President Asif Ali Zardari said Mr Holbrooke had been a friend to the nation, and a friend to him. He said the best response to his death would be to recommit to the fight against militancy.
Afghan President Hamid Karzai said Mr Holbrooke was "a veteran and seasoned diplomat who had served greatly the government and the people of the United States".
Mr Holbrooke, a New York City native, also served as the US ambassador to the United Nations and to Germany, as well as the assistant secretary of state.
Analysts had said the veteran diplomat could one day serve as a future secretary of state.
Mr Holbrooke's deputy, Frank Ruggiero, is expected to stand in for him in the interim.

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange making new bail bid

Julian Assange in his prison van en route to court (pic: Dec 14)
Julian Assange was photographed inside a prison van on his way to court
The founder of whistle-blowing website Wikileaks is appearing in court in London in a fresh attempt to secure bail.
Julian Assange, 39, denies sexually assaulting two women in Sweden and is fighting extradition.
Mr Assange was refused bail last week despite the offer of sureties from figures including film director Ken Loach and journalist John Pilger.
A number of protesters gathered outside the court ahead of the hearing.
They have been joined outside City of Westminster Magistrates' Court by a large crowd of reporters and a number of Mr Assange's high-profile supporters.
Gay rights campaigner Peter Tatchell told reporters: "The denial of bail looks like victimisation.
"I think it's absolutely wrong that he is being treated in this way."
Earlier, Christine Assange told Australian television station Channel 7 that she had spoken to her son in prison.
"I told him how people all over the world, in all sorts of countries, were standing up with placards and screaming out for his freedom and justice and he was very heartened by that," she said.
"As a mother, I'm asking the world to stand up for my brave son."
Ms Assange also read a statement from him, which she had copied down when he spoke to her from Wandsworth Prison. In it, he defended the actions of Wikileaks, adding: "My convictions are unfaltering."
His lawyer Mark Stephens said he had not been given any of his post - including legal letters - since being remanded in custody.
Protesters supporting Julian Assange outside City of Westminster Magistrates' Court Protesters have gathered outside City of Westminster Magistrates
"He has absolutely no access to any electronic equipment, no access to the outside world, no access to outside media," he said.
Mr Stephens said the only correspondence his client had received was a note telling him that a copy of Time magazine sent to him had been destroyed because the cover bore his photograph.
'Politically motivated' In his first appearance at court last week, District Judge Howard Riddle refused Mr Assange bail on the grounds he could flee.
He is accused of having unprotected sex with a woman, identified only as Miss A, when she insisted he use a condo
He is also accused of having unprotected sex with another woman, Miss W, while she was asleep.
Mr Assange claims the charges are politically motivated and are designed to discredit him.
In recent weeks, Wikileaks has published a series of US diplomatic cables revealing secret information on topics such as terrorism and international relations.
The latest release, published by the Guardian newspaper, shows that the US had concerns after the 7 July bombings that the UK was not doing enough to tackle home-grown extremists.
Another cable claims British police helped "develop" evidence against Madeleine McCann's parents after she went missing.
'Great stories' Jemima Khan, sister of Conservative MP Zac Goldsmith, was also among those to attend the court hearing on Tuesday.
Journalist John Pilger, who like Ms Khan had offered to pay a surety to secure Mr Assange's release on bail, told the BBC. "I spoke to Julian Assange in Wandsworth Prison and he told me they put him in solitary confinement in a punishment block. This is ridiculous."
Asked about Wikileaks, Mr Pilger added: "This should be the heart of journalism. The really great stories - the ones that tell us how the world works, help us to make sense of the world - invariably come from whistle-blowers."

Basshunter music star on sex attack charges

DJ Basshunter
DJ Basshunter came fourth in this year's Celebrity Big Brother
Dance music star Basshunter has been charged by police over an alleged sex assault on two female fans at a Fife nightclub gig.
Jonas Erik Altberg, 25, was charged by Fife Constabulary over allegations made at Kitty's nightclub in Kirkcaldy in the early hours of Friday.
Officers questioned the former Celebrity Big Brother star over claims he attacked the pair.
That led to him being charged under the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2009.
He was released on bail and is due to appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court to answer the charges in January.
Number one Basshunter played another set in Glasgow on Saturday but was understood to be back home in Sweden on Tuesday.
A Fife Constabulary spokesman said: "Police in Fife can confirm that a 25-year-old man has been arrested in relation to alleged offences committed at Kitty's, Hunter Street, Kirkcaldy, and has been bailed to appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court in due course."
Basshunter had a UK number one single with Now You're Gone in 2007.
He also featured in this year's final series of Celebrity Big Brother.
Basshunter's manager, Scott Simons, insisted the allegations were "totally untrue".
He stressed his client would fully co-operate with the police investigation.

Drew Barrymore Is Going Bollywood!

wenn2973328jb.jpg
Everyone is going Bollywood these days!
Drew Barrymore is reportedly the latest to take a role in an Indian film, called The Lifestyle!
According to director Santosh Kumar Jain:
"I really liked her performance in Charlie's Angels and decided to cast her in my film. Fortunately, she liked the script and agreed instantly. The film is about three women from different walks of life, trying to assert their identities. Drew plays the role of a foreigner in the film. The other two will be top Indian actresses."
Inneresting!
This one doesn't sound as ridiculous exciting as Shakira as a Hindu goddess, but it might be cool to see Drew playing a character outside of her element in a foreign country? Lost In Translation, anyone?
What do U think?? Interested in Drew's foray into Bollywood??

Willow Smith Isn't Given ANY Rules From Her Parents

willow smith doesnt have rules
If Willow Smith wants to whip her hair wildly back and forth during family dinner, she technically can, because she has NO RULES!
Her mother, Jada Pinkett Smith, has admitted that her and Will try not to give their daughter rules, and instead have other methods of parenting.
Here's what Jada had to say about it:
“We don’t have rules. We come up with agreements. Kids are little people, and we’re in life to guide them. Trying to rule someone is always an illusion, and it’s no different with children.”
Here's Jada on an example of how she's dealt with an "altercation" with Willow, when the 10-year-old set up a page on a social networking site against her mother's advice:
“I told her not to, so I was so mad. I said, ‘What do you think I should do now?’ So Willow said, ‘Mom, take my computer away’. And I said, ‘How long for?’. She said a month."
And more from Jada:
“So it’s negotiations. I’m not saying it’s always perfect. I have my bloops and my blunders. But I’m doing my best.”
And more:
“Being part of the family she’s from, and working in the industry she’s chosen, she needs some guidance. So I’m here to teach her how to look after her later. Willow isn’t the breadwinner. Most times in this situation, a kid is supporting herself and an entire family. She’s not doing it to support a family, so she can do as much or as little as she wants to.”
Negotiations or agreements instead of rules, eh? We're thinking that might work out SOME of the time…but there may be some circumstances where rules can do a child good!
Do U agree with the Smiths' parenting method? Or do U think it could use some work?

MuchMusic Awards Fashion Face-Off: Perez Hilton vs. Pauly D

In a suit decorated with pandas and pink hearts, and with gray hair to match, Perez Hilton made quite an appearance at the MuchMusic Video Awards in Toronto.
To think that it was one year ago exactly that the celebrity gossip blogger got his ass whomped after the same award show in an altercation with the Black Eyed Peas.
Ah, such fond memories.
This year, Perez managed to go a whole night without catching a beating. Good thing Miley is all about love, otherwise her manager may have pummeled him too.
In any case, how does Hilton's "fashion" compare with that of Jersey Shore star DJ Pauly D, whose hair could use up a few million gallons from the BP oil spill?
Vote below, and ignore the troll on Pauly's arm ...

Hidden Messages Found In Da Vinci's Mona Lisa!

hidden messages found in mona lisa
Looks like Dan Brown may have material for another Da Vinci Code book after reading about this!
Members of Italy's National Committee for Cultural Heritage have revealed that they've found letters and numbers in the Mona Lisa's eyes, which can only be seen by magnifying high resolution images of the painting.
Here's what President of the Comittee, Silvano Vinceti, had to say about it:
"To the naked [eye] the symbols are not visible but with a magnifying glass they can clearly be seen."
Pretty wild stuff! Is Robert Langdon or Nicolas Cage available to investigate?

Snooki Wants to Punch Heidi Montag

Talk about a battle of larger-than-life MTV personalities.
With Heidi Montag's show The Hills ending its run this week (with no sign of the plastic princess) and Snooki's hit Jersey Shore kicking off its second season July 29, the two ladies have somehow gotten themselves into a hilarious feud.
Asked by Perez Hilton if Jersey Shore would consider taking Heidi on, Snooki replied: "I will punch her in the face because I don't like her. She had too many surgeries. She looks like an alien and guidettes don't look like aliens, just saying."
LOL.
Stupid SnookiHeidi is Jacked
"Guidettes don't look like aliens." - Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi
Asked if there's a reason she hates Heidi Montag, she said: "I don't know [if she said anything about me]. I don't research Heidi because she's nothing to me."
Great stuff. Although when asked about her own pop culture relevance, the Jersey Shore star revealed her business model, which is quite to that of The Hills diva.
"I'm trying to do as much as I can right now. I have a clothing line coming out, then my hair [line] is Snook-it, [using] hairspray and a teasing comb," she said.
"My book's coming out about how I view the world."
How Heidi views Snooki is pretty unfavorable after she caught wind of the Oompa Loompa's feelings from Perez's Tweets (click here to follow THG on Twitter).
She responded: "@PerezHilton for a girl who was punched in the face I would think she of all people would know that is not a funny thing to joke about."
The 'Tag added: "@PerezHilton You have also been punched so I would think you would understand that is crossing the line and I don't think that is funny."

Oprah Drama!

And the network hasn't even launched yet!
Oprah’s new OWN network is tripling the $0.07 per month fee for cable and satellite providers that they pay for the Discovery Health network that it replaces. Many are waiting until their deals with Discovery Health expire in order to renegotiate.
The network generated $18 million in advertising revenue this year and the already existing fee would generate about $64 million annually from subscriber fees.
Wonder why they're getting so greedy.

Perez Hilton Pledges to Be Nice

Might we be seeing a new side to Perez Hilton?
Following a rash of recent suicides by gay men, most notably that of Rutgers University freshman Tyler Clementi, the blogger has been posing anti-bullying messages on his website. For example, check out Kim Kardashian's message HERE.
The New Perez?
"Over the last two weeks I have been doing everything I can to bring awareness to the teen suicides and gay bullying," Hilton tells Ellen DeGeneres on an episode of that host's talk show that airs today. "In doing so, a lot of people have called me a hypocrite and a bully myself and a big one... From now on I really want to be part of the solution and not part of the problem."
Meaning what, exactly?
Perez didn't get specific, but he would need to overhaul his entire blogging style in order to make a change toward the positive.
This is a man notorious for drawing penises on photos, referring to stars by insulting nicknames (e.g. "Maniston"), trying to out other gays (he forced Neil Patrick Harris out of the closet in 2006 by asking men to report intimate stories about the actor to him) and posting inappropriate pics of underage celebs (see flap, Miley Cyrus).
